Why Soccer?

Soccer has always been something enjoyable for me starting from when I was 5 years old. I joined my first ever soccer team in first grade because my mom had forced me to join but I started to have deeper interest in it and decided to keep playing. I went to soccer competitions in different countries starting from second grade and I started practicing with a group out of school with my friends. It has always motivated me to keep moving forward and reaching my goals and that’s what makes me keep playing soccer.

Dribbling

To practice dribbling the ball in soccer is very important because dribbling is what leads to all kinds of different skills. Shooting the ball in the net requires you to dribble it as well because you have to dribble the ball and bring it towards the net in order to shoot. Dribbling can also keep you warmed up and if you cannot dribble, you cannot do diverse and hard skills or moves.

Shooting

Shooting is actually not necessary for all players but shooting drills can help you improve in ball control and you would be able to shoot the ball to the direction you intended to. As you practice shooting more, you would be able to kick the ball more freely, without making mistakes and giving to an opposing teammate. Though shooting may seem unnecessary to players like a goalie (goalkeeper), when they do a goal kick, it becomes very necessary for them to kick the ball almost as if they’re shooting but with control.

Passing

Passing is something very important in soccer because it helps you improve on your teamwork with the other players and in order to become a good team, teamwork is necessary. There are many different passing drills but long passes, in my opinion, are the most important for ball control and short passes are very important as well because you would be able to improve on your interactions with a teammate and this would also help in ball control.

Tackling

Tackling is something that all soccer players need except for goalies since they don’t come too near to other players because other players cannot pass the goalie box. This is where you take the ball directly away from the dribbler and it is very important that you pick the right time to tackle. If you accidentally miss the ball, the opponent may go past you and on their way to shooting a goal. Missing the ball will most likely cost you a point which would benefit the opposing team but will disadvantage your team.

Trapping

There are many different ways to trap the ball while people are passing the ball to each other. Some common trapping methods include step trap, inside trap, thigh trap, chest trap, head trap, etc. Trapping allows you to retain possession for your team, and possession meaning higher chance of winning. Learning to trap the ball correctly will help many other parts of your game, including dribbling and passing. Also if you watch famous dribblers, their trapping is a huge reason why they’re considered good.
